Begin with Intention

This time of year, this strange, disoriented week between Christmas and the beginning of the new year, is a great time to take inventory—of our lives, our behavior patterns, our practices, and to make conscious choices about what to keep and what to discard in the coming year. I believe that every moment of every day can be a fresh start, but this cold, closed-in, winter season lends itself to getting quiet, limiting our outside distractions and really tuning in for self-assessment.

I have a somewhat embarrassing confession: despite always (seriously, ever since college) wanting to be a “meditator”, I have never been able to stick with a meditation practice longer than a week or so, at best. I’ve tried so many times. But, at the beginning of this month, I quietly promised myself that I would sit in meditation every day, as a way to force my body to be still, and in an effort to make my mind still, too. I’m happy to report that, so far, I have honored this promise to myself. And I feel better for it. This practice has brought me more into the present moment and out of my monkey mind. It’s a small time commitment (only about 20 minutes each day), but it has made such a difference in my mental state. I’d like to encourage you to make a similar commitment to yourself. Choose something that makes you light up, that puts a smile on your face. Small practices often result in big changes!

So, how do you know what kind of practice is best for you? Observe yourself as you go about your day. Notice the activities that make your heart and mind expansive and free. Maybe you already recognize that a walk in the fresh air refreshes and renews your mind and body. Or maybe a brief yoga practice, or reading inspiring devotions over your coffee or tea uplifts you. Whatever suits you—do that! You and your well-being are worth it. Fill yourself up with good, uplifting experiences—create them for yourself! That way, you can shine your unique light into this world. (In case you hadn’t noticed, this world needs your light!)

If you’re feeling a bit lost, or perhaps worn down, maybe I can help. Connect with me, and we can talk about Precision Energy Healing. It’s a new thing for me. We’ll connect one-on-one to determine where your energy is blocked, and I’ll provide you with guided practices and other suggestions that will help to free up your energy and enable you to be your best Self. You’ll also get two 60-minute Reiki sessions (in-person, or from a distance) where I can create space for and facilitate your healing. If this sounds like it’s for you, connect with me here.

However you choose to spend this week of in-between, I hope you enjoy it! May 2021 bring you blessings beyond your wildest dreams!

Namaste.
