Reiki & the Bible

For those of you who do not know, I am both a Christian and a Reiki healer. My faith has carried me through life when I’ve felt like most everything and everyone in the world have turned crazy, upside down, and backwards. Knowing that I am not in control of any of it and that there is a gracious and loving God who is in control has kept me sane and grounded. My faith in the God of the Universe is what powers my calling to share Reiki and yoga. It’s what makes being a Reiki healer possible. Without this underlying faith, there would be no healing energy to tap into. Despite what many people think, Christianity and Reiki are not mutually exclusive. The five Reiki Principles, by which all Reiki practitioners strive to live, are:

Just for today, I will not worry.

Just for today, I will not be angry.

Just for today, I will do my work honestly.

Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings.

Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbor and every living thing.

These principles have been translated from Japanese, so you may see some variation in translations from different sources. Anyone who is familiar with Biblical principles could look at the Reiki principles and see that they align. Moreover, there is no reference to any deity, god, or goddess within the Reiki principles; Reiki is not a religion.

I was inspired to write this blog because I cannot count how many times I’ve been told by clients that they had recommended Reiki to a friend, colleague, or family member and the person was all in, ready to experience this type of healing, and then they “talked to someone at church” and found out that Reiki is a religion, evil, or some variation on those themes. That is rubbish. I have never ever experienced the palpable presence of God as powerfully as I do when I’m sharing Reiki. And I dare say that many people who have received Reiki would tell you the same.

We are God’s hands and feet. God has given each of us gifts that we are meant to share with the world, for His glory. One gift that God gave me was the ability to create a safe space for healing and share His shalom, through Reiki, with those who seek it. And some people who might significantly benefit from Reiki (Divine healing energy…God’s energy channeled through me, acting as His hands!) are rejecting it before even experiencing it because someone has spoken in ignorance. It truly upsets me that people who are suffering from anxiety, PTSD, stress, chronic pain, etc., will never try Reiki because of lack of understanding. If you or your friends have questions about Reiki, direct them to this blog or share my email address with them. I will do my best to answer their questions from the perspective of someone who knows a bit about both Reiki and Christianity. I will never claim to know everything about anything. Honestly, I don’t fully understand Reiki and I never expect to. I am nothing more than a channel. I am guided by Divine wisdom and intuition to pray for those who come to me in need of healing. Sometimes the results are immediate and impressive (for example, pain relief or decreased anxiety) but, more often, the results are subtle and take a while to be revealed. I don’t get attached to outcomes because it’s not under my control whether the particular sought-after healing occurs. You can only receive healing that you are ready for, and the healing you receive may take a different form than what you were hoping. But it only works if you show up and ask for healing with an open mind and heart. Whenever you’re ready, you know where to find me.

With love,

Molly
